The water that LVMWD serves is entirely imported, as there are no local water supplies to draw from in our service area. During times of emergency, such as extreme drought, this can cause issues with the amount of water we are able to serve.

The Pure Water Project, led by the Las Virgenes-Triunfo Joint Powers Authority (JPA), is a means of tackling this concern, creating a reliable and local water source for our region.

Surplus recycled water from our Tapia Water Reclamation Facility is filtered to meet or exceed drinking water standards. This filtration process will occur in our Advanced Water Purification Facility, where water will go through membrane filtration, reverse osmosis, and advanced oxidation with ultraviolet light to purify recycled water. Upon completion, the Pure Water Project can provide up to 30% of the District’s water supply, rather than total importation.

Visit the official Pure Water Project website for more information.
